Bremerton police said in a Facebook post that the Lacey man worked as a security guard, but had been committing law enforcement acts in the downtown corridor."

The man showed up to a crime scene in Bremerton early Friday in an unmarked Ford Explorer with police lights flashing, Bremerton police said in the post, adding that the man identified himself as an off-duty police officer. He was wearing body armor with "police" and "SWAT badges, as well as a metallic Edmonds police badge, according to authorities.

Police found he was not an Edmonds police officer. They said he had a felony record, a firearm and a large amount of police equipment.

The man was booked into Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of first-degree criminal impersonation and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. The Seattle Times typically does not name suspects until they have been formally charged with a crime.

Bremerton police asked anyone who has had similar encounters with the alleged police impersonator to contact them at 360-473-5220.
