A man drowned early Tuesday after he drove his car through a closed road near Snohomish and ended up in a ditch flooded with 6 feet of water, according to the Snohomish County sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters responded to reports of a submerged car near the 6600 block of Marsh Road about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said. The driver, a 33-year-old man, had reportedly driven past closure signs at Lowell Larimer Road and Marsh Road, then drove north on Marsh Road.

The vehicle then left the roadway and entered the ditch, then was overtaken by water. Rescue swimmers removed the driver from the car and pronounced him dead.
