An Oregon man who allegedly attempted to molest a 9-year-old child while living in Vader in August 2019 has pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree attempted child molestation and was released from the Lewis County Jail on a suspended sentence on Tuesday.

Judge J. Andrew Toynbee sentenced Nathan E. Nelson, 27, of Tigard, to nearly 67 months in custody but suspended the sentence, meaning that Nelson can serve three years on probation instead of serving additional jail time.

If Nelson breaks his conditions of release, then he will be arrested and required to serve the full sentence in custody.

Nelson was charged in December 2019 after the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Nelson, who was 25 years old at the time of the incident in August 2019, had shown a 9-year-old victim pornographic videos and attempted to molest the victim.

In addition to standard probation conditions, Nelson is required to submit to a sexual deviancy evaluation and follow all treatment recommendations. He is also prohibited from contact with minors other than his biological children unless he has prior approval from his treatment provider, and he is not allowed to have contact with the victim.

Nelson will have a review hearing in Lewis County in May 2022.
