A stabbing at a Northeast Portland restaurant Saturday has landed a man in jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing inside a restaurant on Northeast Hassalo Street shortly after noon, the Portland Police Bureau said. A person who answered the phone at the Denny’s on that block confirmed that it was the scene of the incident.
When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a man in the doorway to the restaurant holding a knife, police said. He complied with police orders and was detained without issue.
Inside the Denny’s, officers found a woman with serious injuries who had been stabbed in the course of a robbery. She declined to be transported to a hospital and was treated at the scene, police said.
After an investigation, Portland police arrested Elias L. Lavelle, 42. He is accused of attempted murder, assault, unlawful use of a weapon and robbery.
