A man was arrested in Bucoda early Monday morning on domestic violence assault charges following a standoff with law enforcement, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The Chronicle is not naming the suspect to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

Deputies were first dispatched to an address in Bucoda for a domestic violence assault Sunday night, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, the male suspect barricaded himself and refused to exit the property.

The victim exited the residence shortly after deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s office

The suspect reportedly made a reference to being armed.

Deputies determined he had an active felony warrant for his arrest for second-degree domestic violence assault and a Department of Corrections warrant stemming from a second-degree robbery charge. Deputies at the scene also established new probable cause for another second-degree domestic violence assault charge and obtained a warrant to enter the residence and seize the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Due to the severity of the crime and risk factors, SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were activated,” stated the sheriff’s office in a Facebook post on Monday.

At 2:25 a.m. on Monday, after hours of attempted negotiations and the suspect’s refusal to exit, the SWAT team entered the residence and found the suspect hiding in the attic.

He was subsequently booked into the Thurston County Jail.

No injuries resulting from the standoff were reported.
