A man in Salkum was arrested by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday night at the scene of a fire on unrelated warrants.

No injuries were reported from the fire.

According to Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Field Operations Chief Dusty Breen, deputies were dispatched to assist fire personnel in the 200 block of Fuller Road at 7:08 p.m. Wednesday as there was initial speculation that a person was caught inside the burning structure, a fifth wheel trailer.

“That was not the case,” Breen said.

However, when deputies saw the man, Jordan N. White, 27, of Onalaska, they reportedly recognized him due to outstanding warrants.

As previously reported in The Chronicle, White is one of two suspects accused of accessing the roof of Pizza Hut on Harrison Avenue in Centralia and going through the HVAC system — causing “well over” $5,000 in damage to the system in the process — to break into the business sometime before 6:15 a.m. on July 17, 2022.

Once inside, White and Cory L. Hughes, 29, of Centralia, allegedly used a reciprocating saw, also known as a sawzall, to cut a hole in a safe and steal $1,455.86.

White was arrested in September 2022, posted bail and then did not show up for subsequent hearings. After his arrest Wednesday, a judge issued him a no-bail hold.

Breen said additional charges of resisting arrest were referred against White, as he allegedly tried to run from deputies on Wednesday in Salkum.

Salkum Fire Chief Duran McDaniel told The Chronicle the blaze was fully involved when it was reported. The trailer was a total loss.

Firefighters from Mossyrock and Salkum fire departments responded jointly to the fire and, around 8 p.m. Wednesday were still working to keep flames back from a shop next to the trailer with a metal roof.

“We’re gonna be here awhile,” McDaniel said while at the scene.
