A man has been arrested on assault charges after he allegedly slashed a Fuller’s Shop’n Kart employee with a knife after he was asked to leave the business around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The man, identified in jail records as Isaac Jacob Nelson, reportedly went into the grocery store in the 500 block of Tower Avenue as a customer, but staff asked him to leave.

“Apparently he was being belligerent or something of that nature,” said Centralia Police Commander Paul Evers.

Nelson left the business but soon returned with a knife and allegedly slashed at a Fuller’s employee, slicing a 1-inch laceration into her head.

He fled the scene but police quickly located him about a block away, according to Evers.

Nelson was booked into the Lewis County Jail on one count of second-degree assault with a knife at 10:20 a.m. on Dec. 28. He has not yet been formally charged.

Fuller’s locked its doors briefly after the incident in an effort to keep staff safe and to take care of the employee who was injured, said a company spokesperson.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and has been released, said Evers.
