A Walla Walla man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly broke into Mint City Coffee Roasting in Chehalis by entering through a window.

Chehalis police say Moises Castillo Flores, 28, had recently abandoned treatment at the American Behavioral Health Systems (ABHS) facility.

He made a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on Thursday.

According to prosecutors, Castillo Flores was supposed to be serving a residential drug offender sentencing alternative (DOSA) at the time of his arrest. Court documents indicate Castillo Flores had an active warrant out of Walla Walla for that previous case, in which he was convicted on drug-related charges.

Prosecutors say he has other convictions for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of an unlawful firearm, reckless driving and other offenses.

During the preliminary hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Brandi Archer requested a bail of $20,000, citing the nature of the case, the defendant’s criminal history, his active warrant out of Walla Walla and 10 other warrants issued in the past.

Defense attorney Rachael Tiller noted there was already a no-bail hold in place for the active warrant, and said Castillo Flores had no income and had been focused on treatment. She requested no more than $5,000 in bail.

Judge J. Andrew Toynbee indicated bail was appropriate and settled at $10,000 cash or bond, saying he wasn’t sure how long the no-bail hold would be in place.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police were dispatched to a “suspicious circumstance” at Mint City Coffee Roasting on North Market Boulevard around 8:30 a.m. March 25.

Upon arrival, an officer noted a broken window by the door and recalled seeing Castillo Flores standing in front of the door earlier that morning.

During his search of the building, the officer reportedly found Castillo Flores upstairs “behind a door that appeared to have been kicked open and broken,” according to the affidavit.

Castillo Flores allegedly had blood on his hand and leg.

Officers arrested the suspect and booked him into the Lewis County Jail around 9 a.m.

Castillo Flores is scheduled for an arraignment on April 2.
