A 39-year-old man was stabbed in the back Wednesday evening in the University District, Seattle police say.
Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing near Northeast 47th Street and Brooklyn Avenue Northeast just before 7 p.m., said police spokesperson Sgt. Patrick Michaud.
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition, Michaud said.
The 39-year-old had confronted the man suspected of the stabbing, believing the person was stealing bikes, Michaud said.
Images of the man suspected of the stabbing were captured on video surveillance from The People’s Harm Reduction Alliance, a nonprofit that provides services and safe supplies to people using drugs, Michaud said, but there is no clear description of the man.
The University of Washington sent out an alert to its campus community describing the suspect “as a man with dirty blond hair in his 30s wearing blue shorts and no shirt” who had a limp.
Police have not made an arrest, Michaud said.
