A 29-year-old man has been arrested as the primary suspect in connection to the June burglary at Seattle rapper Macklemore’s home, according to police.
King County’s Valley SWAT team descended on the 29-year-old’s home in Renton on August 21, serving a search warrant, the Seattle Police Department said. Police arrested him on a separate robbery warrant.
The investigation then led police to a jewelry store in South Seattle, where they found items stolen from Macklemore’s home and other high-profile people and homes that had been burglarized recently, Seattle police said.
Two men broke into Macklemore’s Capitol Hill home on June 7, stole thousands of dollars of jewelry and used bear spray on a 22-year-old nanny who was taking care of three children. Police did not identify Macklemore as the homeowner and redacted his name in a police report, but the address listed in the report appears to match that on Macklemore’s voting record.
Macklemore wasn’t home at the time, Seattle police said, referring to the Seattle celebrity as the “homeowner,” when the men entered the home through an unlocked door. Among the jewelry the suspects stole was a Seattle Sounders ring with Macklemore’s name on it.
Police did not say if the Sounders ring was among the items recovered from the South Seattle store.
The burglary of Macklemore’s home was one in a string of invasions of Seattle celebrities' homes.
A Seattle man was charged in June with the targeted home burglaries of Seattle Mariners All-Star outfielder Julio Rodríguez, former Seattle Seahawks All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman and two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.
Police are expected to refer criminal charges to the King County prosecuting attorney’s office in the coming days for the 29-year-old arrested in connection to Macklemore’s home burglary.
