A longtime Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arraigned Thursday afternoon on multiple sex crime allegations involving a minor, court records show.
Steven Woolcock, 48, made his first appearance in Clackamas County Circuit Court, records show. He did not enter a plea. His attorney, Shannon Kmetic, declined to comment.
Public records show Woolcock lives in Beavercreek. A grand jury indicted him on July 10 on five charges: first-, second- and three counts of third-degree sexual abuse.
First-degree sexual abuse is a Measure 11 crime that carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence.
The indictment alleges Woolcock committed the crimes on Feb. 1 and 3.
The Oregon State Police investigated the allegations.
Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training records show Woolcock was placed on administrative leave on Feb. 5.
Records show he first went to work at the sheriff’s office in 1998 and resigned two years later. He returned to the agency in 2007.
His pay last year was $111,650, county records show.
The state police notified the sheriff’s office about the investigation into “conduct that occured while off-duty” in February. Woolcock, a civil deputy, was placed on leave immediately, the agency said.
The felony charges mean Woolcock’s leave is now unpaid, the sheriff’s office said.
