The Onalaska girls basketball team kept its season alive and inched closer to a state tournament berth on Tuesday, defeating Toledo 51-40 in a 2B District 4 Tournament Elimination Game in Castle Rock.
The Loggers took control early, limiting the Riverhawks on the defensive end while scoring 15 points in the opening frame to take the lead.
They continued to build on it in the second, and they led 27-16 at halftime.
“I was really proud of the defensive energy to start the game,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “Our defense sparked our offense in the first half.”
The second half was more even, but the Riverhawks couldn’t find enough answers offensively to dig out of the first-half hole.
Emalie Jacoby finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals to lead the Loggers, while Randi Haight and Delaney Marshall both added nine points.
Renzy Marshall added eight points, six rebounds, and a pair of steals, and Kaiyah Sandridge scored six. Leah Hamilton added three points, and Kiley Talley scored one point and brought in five rebounds.
“All eight girls who saw the court tonight had key moments that contributed to this win,” Olson said.
Onalaska (17-8) now moves on to face Napavine on Thursday. The winner of that game will earn a state tournament berth and a spot in the 2B District 4 Third-Place Game.
Toledo finishes its season 12-11, and loses Hope Gould, the team’s only senior.
