Loggers Overcome Slow Start in Win Over South Bend

Though the Onalaska girls basketball team trailed after two quarters, the Logger defense came out in the second half with a ferocious defense in a 39-34 win over South Bend Monday night in a home non-league contest.

The Loggers fell behind, 24-19 at the halftime break, but gave up just 10 points in the second half and went on a 9-4 run in the fourth quarter to earn the home win.

“We got off to a very slow start tonight,” Loggers coach Alana Olson said. “We were a step behind on defense and were slow reacting to cutters. We came out and worked much harder in the second half. I’m proud of the way the girls ended the game. Shantai Ikola came off the bench and played with a lot of heart tonight.”

Ikola totaled two points but was key to the defensive effort in the second half, and senior guard Brooklyn Sandridge added 17 points to lead all scorers for the Loggers.

Onalaska will play host to Toutle Lake next on Wednesday.
