Loggers Fall to Scots on Golden Goal in OT

A back-and-forth battle on a frozen field in Highland saw the No. 10 Onalaska girls soccer team fall in a heartbreaker to the Scots, 1-0, on a golden goal in the first overtime period Tuesday in the first round of the 2B state playoffs.

The Loggers and Scots battled to a 0-0 draw after one, with Highland controlling possession for most of the game but the Loggers managing some good counterattack chances throughout thanks to the speed of senior Brooklyn Sandridge. But despite some quality chances on both sides, neither could quite crack the opposing defense.

Hailee Brown had 11 saves in goal, keeping every shot at bay until that first overtime, when a rocket shot hit Ony defender Kate Zandell in the head and a Scot fired the game-winner past a frazzled Logger defense.

The loss means the Loggers season is over at 9-6-2, with a second-place finish in league and a third-place finish at districts.
