The Onalaska boys soccer team started off strong against Fort Vancouver on Friday, but the Trappers were able to pull away and hand the Loggers a 6-0 loss.
Onalaska was the more aggressive team in the first 15 minutes, and the Loggers had their share of chances to jump in front early.
They created a good build up on multiple occasions, leading to four one-on-one opportunities against the Trappers’ keeper. They weren’t able to connect on any of those chances, though, and the game remained scoreless.
Fort Vancouver got on the board in the 33rd minute, sinking a loose ball after a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Trappers had much more success offensively, scoring five goals to pull away.
“They definitely came out more aggressive and used their strength and size against us,” Onalaska coach Luis Magana said. “And we started to run out of gas.”
Christofer James finished with 17 saves in net, and the Loggers finished with seven shots as a team.
Magana gave credit to his offense for continuing to develop their attack, saying that the progress from Day 1 has been substantial, and he also gave a shout out to Angel Cerceda, Bradley Poppe, and James for their defensive efforts.
Onalaska (0-11, 0-11 1A Evergreen) will head to Vancouver on Wednesday to face Seton Catholic.
