Loggers come out firing, sweep Tigers

Onalaska got one step closer to a perfect league season on Monday, sweeping Napavine in emphatic fashion in a 25-8, 25-10, 25-11 victory.

“We came out and we were ready to play,” Onalaska coach Susan Gordon said. “Great all-around team focus and determination tonight.”

As a team, the Loggers delivered 23 aces from the line, including nine from Faith Hammer and six from Renzy Marshall.

Emalie Jacoby had 11 kills and seven digs, Hammer added a pair of blocks, and Marshall and Capri McGraw added five digs each.

Gordon gave credit to the bench, calling it the team’s “MVP” and noting that they kept the energy up throughout the match.

Napavine struggled from the line, missing a third of their serves.

Kendall Kelly and Sophia Bittner were both perfect from the line, and Kennedy Purvis was a perfect 8 for 8 in serve receive while also adding nine digs. Makayla Brett added eight assists and eight digs of her own.

Napavine (3-12, 2-5 C2BL) will head to Rainier on Wednesday.

A win would almost certainly guarantee the Tigers a spot in the district pigtail matches, but a loss could leave them involved in a potential three-team tiebreaker along with Morton-White Pass and Adna depending on how the rest of Wednesday’s games go.

Onalaska (10-3, 7-0 C2BL) will face Adna on Wednesday hoping to cap a perfect league year.
