Loggers Bury Trojans on Underhill Buzzer-Beater

The Onalaska boys basketball team earned its second dramatic win in a row Saturday evening, downing Pe Ell 60-58 on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer out of the hands of Blaze Underhill.

Unlike the Loggers’ win over Winlock on Thursday, when they fell behind and came back, Saturday saw Onalaska bolt out ahead with a 23-13 first quarter. But the Trojans came back slowly, tying the game up by the end of regulation to send it to overtime, and took a 58-57 lead late in the extra period.

Taking the ball out with 38 seconds left on the clock, Onalaska whittled the shot clock, and while Nick Rushton’s 3-pointer clanked out, it bounced far enough for the sophomore to get to his own shot, tipping it out to Cooper Lawrence. Working the ball back around the perimeter, Rushton found Underhill in the corner with a second left, and he buried the game-winner.

Rylan McGraw finished with a game-high 19 points for the Loggers; Ben Russon had 14 and Underhill scored 12. Kail Homan led Pe Ell with 16 points, and Logan Baldwin added 15.

Both Onalaska and Pe Ell will go back to league play on Tuesday, with the Loggers going to Napavine and the Trojans hosting Columbia Adventist.
