Local Wreaths Across America volunteers are working hard to ensure that all veterans laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia are honored as part of National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 19.
The Ann Cochran Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Legion Grant Hodge Post 17 are teaming up to bring Wreaths Across America to graves of veterans interred at Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia, a news release announced. This is its first year sponsoring this effort.
“Fewer than 100 of the graves at Mountain View have been identified as veterans,” the news release from event organizers stated. “We hope the community will join us to support our efforts to honor our veterans and help us identify more of our veterans’ grave sites.”
Residents can order wreaths at www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/WAMVCC. Residents unable to order but who would still like their veteran honored can send identification to AnnCochranChapterNSDAR@gmail.com.
Wreaths will be provided if there are enough left over.
“Every $17 sponsorship made is a meaningful gift from a grateful American who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy,” Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America, said in the release. “We are so grateful to the good people of this wonderful community for participating in our mission to remember, honor and teach.”
Last year, ceremonies were held across the country at 5,598 participating locations, placing more than 3.1 million sponsored veterans’ wreaths for servicemembers laid to rest.
This year Wreaths Across America Day will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19.
