Local student organizes holiday coat drive

As the Christmas season ramps up, a young Lewis County resident is teaming up with local businesses to make sure everyone can get a little holiday cheer.

“I would like to gather items for the people in need,” a flier written by 7-year-old Mia Sanchez reads. “For example, blankets, gloves, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, jackets, hoodies, tents, etc.”

According to the flier, Mia was inspired to organize the charity drive after seeing people ill-equipped for the elements.

“I want to help them,” the flier reads. “I know people do not have a family to help them and I want to give them items that they can use.”

According to Maria Gomez, Mia’s aunt, donations will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 8, at:

• Better Homes & Garden Real Estate, located at 282 SW. 13th St. in Chehalis

• Forced Induction Motorsports, located at 36 N. Market Blvd. in Chehalis

• Tacos El Rey, located at 403 S. Tower Ave. in Centralia

• Lash and Brow Company, located at 316 S. Tower Ave. in Centralia

• Toro’s Barbershop, located at 308 N. Pearl St. in Centralia

• Zabdi Teriyaki, located at 1621 S. Gold St. in Centralia

• Lewis County Title Company, located at 625 S. Market Blvd. in Chehalis

Financial donations will also be accepted, with the money purchasing additional winter gear for those in need.
