Lightning caused six of the 13 fires burning in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest since late July, authorities reported Monday afternoon.
People caused five blazes, while two do not have the causes listed.
Transporting water to the affected areas has been a logistical hurdle, the department reports, so helicopters have been dropping water and crews have been pulling water from nearby lakes and rivers.
Five fires have been reported in the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District in Randle, though two are listed as controlled and two are listed as out as of the 12:30 p.m. notice.
The largest fire, the Midway Fire, is located in this district. It was 8 acres as of Monday afternoon and 75 firefighters were working toward containment.
Three fires have been reported in the Mount St. Helens National Monument and District in Amboy, while two are identified as contained and one as out.
Five fires have been reported in the Mount Adams Ranger District in Trout Lake, with two out, two controlled and one contained.

- Little Canyon, 0.1 acre, found Aug. 1, human caused escaped campfire, status — out.
- Spencer Peak, 0.1, found Aug. 2, human caused, status — contained, firefighters patrolling it.
