Lewis County Transit announced Friday, April 4, that Executive Director Joe Clark will retire in the fall of 2025 after years of service to the organization and the surrounding communities.

Along with the retirement announcement, Lewis County Transit recognized Clark's contributions as the organization's leader, citing expanded services, additional transportation options and the introduction of new technologies.

“We are deeply grateful for Joe’s leadership and his unwavering commitment to the

community,” Mark Westley, chair of the Lewis County Transit Board of Directors, said in a statement. “His vision has helped shape the future of Lewis County Transit, and we look forward to building on the strong foundation he has established.”

During his time as executive director, Clark oversaw the organization's rebranding effort from Twin Transit to Lewis County Transit and the first purchase of a hydrogen-powered bus with plans to develop a zero-emissions fleet.

Lewis County Transit obtained its first hydrogen buses in 2024 to replace its aging diesel powered fleet. Lewis County plans to complete its first zero emissions transit station this summer, which will support three hydrogen buses and open the door for a larger hydrogen-powered fleet.

According to the announcement, Clark will continue working with Lewis County Transit on its hydrogen bus projects after he retires.

The authority also announced that it would begin looking for Clark's replacement as executive director.

“Lewis County Transit has begun the search for its next executive director, focusing on identifying a leader who will continue advancing the organization’s mission and commitment to innovation in public transportation,” the announcement reads.
