Lewis County Superior Court Judge Swears in New Attorney

The Lewis County Bar Association hosted a swearing-in ceremony for a new attorney, Rachel J. Hunt, in Lewis County Superior Court on Friday.

Judge Joely Yeager had the honor of formally swearing in Hunt, who previously worked with Yeager during Yeager’s election campaign in 2016.

Rachel Hunt’s father, retired Lewis County Superior Court Judge Nelson Hunt, also served as a personal mentor to Yeager for many years, Yeager said.

Nelson Hunt served as judge in Lewis County Superior Court from 2004 to 2016.

“I think it’s only fitting, Rachel, that you do your swearing-in in this courtroom, Department 1, where your father presided over so many faces for so many years and where so many new and aspiring attorneys lost their phone privileges,” Yeager said, jokingly reminding Rachel Hunt to keep her phone off during court proceedings.

Rachel Hunt got her master’s degree in public administration and worked for Lewis County on the civil side for three years before attending law school.

She currently works as a Rule 9 intern for the firm Scheibmeir, Kelly and Nelson.

“I’m just really honored to get to come back home and represent individuals in Lewis County. That was my dream, it’s why I went to law school,” Rachel Hunt said Friday.
