Effective Thursday, Oct. 15, the Lewis County Board of Commissioners and Lewis County Fire Marshal lifted restrictions on outdoor burning for all unincorporated lands regulated by Lewis County.
After review of the current and extended weather forecast, the Lewis County fire marshal has determined that current weather conditions within Lewis County have improved enough to lift the restriction to allow outdoor burning, subject to an open burning application and permit.
Annual burning restrictions will run from July 15 through Oct. 15, unless weather conditions warrant a change.
The Lewis County fire marshal works closely with the state Department of Natural Resources, local fire districts and departments and strongly urges all county residents and property owners to be attentive to the condition of their properties through proactive fire prevention measures.
That includes the presence of fire-extinguishing equipment and someone to supervise the fire until it has been extinguished, according to a news release from the county.
Outdoor burning is restricted to only natural vegetation from the burn site. The burning of garbage, paper or other refuse is strictly prohibited at all times.
To obtain an open burning application and permit, residents may apply online at https://tinyurl.com/mfjtvuz9 or in person at the Lewis County fire marshal’s office.
The burning of debris in city limits and urban growth areas is prohibited at all times.
