A man arrested on an outstanding Lewis County Superior Court warrant early Wednesday morning is facing an additional felony charge for allegedly sneaking meth into the Lewis County Jail.

Cody Lynn Sanders, 32, of Zavalla, Texas, is accused of having a small bag of meth in his boxer briefs when he was booked into the Lewis County Jail at approximately 3:57 a.m. on Feb. 19, according to jail records and court documents.

Jail staff reportedly located the narcotics during a strip search conducted as part of the booking process.

Sanders had been arrested on a no-bail bench warrant issued in June 2024 for second-degree burglary, third-degree theft and bail jumping charges, according to court documents. In that case, Sanders is accused of stealing two battery-operated drills and approximately $100 in quarters from behind the counter in the game room of Insert Coin in Centralia in November 2023, according to court documents. The bail jumping charge was added in June 2024 after he allegedly failed to appear for his jury trial, according to court documents.

Sanders was contacted Feb. 19 by officers with the Chehalis Tribal Police Department, who contacted the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responded to arrest Sanders and located coins and a debit card in Sanders’ pockets after Sanders allegedly told the deputy someone had already emptied his pockets, according to court documents.

When questioned about the meth found on his person at the jail, Sanders allegedly “stated he believed he had everything from his person removed, but admitted he purchased the methamphetamine at a gas station off of Exit 88 in Grand Mound,” according to court documents.

He faces one count of possession of a controlled substance while in a county or local correctional facility, which is a class C felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Sanders is being held without bail on his 2023 case. Bail is set at $60,000 for the new charge due to Sanders’ history of failing to appear in court.

Arraignment was scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20.
