Lewis County Master Gardeners are offering a trio of hands‑on gardening classes this March, giving community members practical skills to prepare for the growing season.
All sessions are free and open to the public, according to a news release from the Master Gardeners.
“Planting and Growing Grapes” will be held at 10 a.m., March 7, at the Borst Demonstration Garden at Fort Borst Park.
The release states the class will be practical and easy to follow. It will cover planting and caring for grapevines. Attendees will be walked through choosing varieties, preparing soil, proper planting techniques and the essentials of training and pruning for healthy growth. This class is ideal for both new and experienced gardeners looking to expand into fruit production.
“Blueberry Care” will be held at 10 a.m., March 14, at Providence Place Demonstration Garden, Chehalis.
This class will cover caring for blueberry plants, such as soil prep, proper pruning, watering techniques and how to keep bushes productive year after year.
A new class, “Tool Sharpening: 101,” will be held at 10 a.m., March 28, at Providence Place Demonstration Garden, Chehalis.
This brand‑new workshop introduces the fundamentals of sharpening and maintaining common garden tools. Attendees will learn how to extend the life of common garden tools, improving performance and reducing strain during garden tasks. This is the first time the Master Gardeners have offered a dedicated tool‑care class, making it a great opportunity for gardeners of all skill levels, the release stated.
All classes are taught by WSU‑trained Master Gardener volunteers and include time for questions and hands‑on demonstrations.
