Lewis County Fire District 6 Celebrates Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training Graduation

Lewis County Fire District 6 staff and recruit graduates attended a firefighter recruit graduation at the district’s Jackson Highway station on Nov. 22. Graduates and their families were welcomed into the district upon completion of their training. Board Chair Colin Mason presented a service award to Kevin Curfman, who retired as a volunteer firefighter with the district. Curfman retired from Chehalis Fire Department as a fire captain and volunteered with Lewis County Fire District 6. “While with Lewis County Fire District 6, Curfman was a dedicated volunteer who served the district and the community in many areas,” said the district. Curfman retired as a volunteer firefighter after 35 years of service. From left are Curfman, Board Chair Colin Mason, Fire Chief Ken Cardinale and Commissioner Greg Greene.

Lewis County Fire District 6, which serves the rural Chehalis and Adna areas, held a ceremony at the November Fire Commissioner’s meeting on Nov. 22 to recognize its new volunteer fire recruits who completed their fire training. The recruits received their state fire certificates, fire helmet, and district challenge coin at the meeting. Firefighter Mike Goodwillie presented the certificates, Fire Chief Ken Cardinale issued their fire helmets, and the commissioners handed out the district challenge coins.

Cardinale addressed the recruits and their families, “discussing the recent training process, the sacrifice, and the commitment of each recruit and their family members,” said District 6 in a news release on the event.

One graduate, Kylie Bretzel, was unable to attend “but was recognized for her achievement,” said the district.
