Lewis County Fire District 16 Receives Grant From AWB Holiday Kids Tree Project

Lewis County Fire District 16, which serves the Doty and Dryad areas, has received a grant to give toys and food to local families in need of holiday support, the district announced Friday.

District 16 is a recipient of the Association of Washington Business (AWB) Holiday Kids Tree Project grant, which seeks to provide “toys and food to deserving rural families during the holiday season,” according to the project website.

The project selects fire departments in rural and small-town areas in Washington where access to larger urban donation facilities is unavailable, according to the project website. The fire districts that receive grants then identify families in their communities and “act as volunteer ambassadors” to give toys and food to those families, according to the project website.

“The fire districts report that these grants are often the only support they receive for their community, and for some children, these are the only gifts they receive during the holiday season,” wrote AWB on the project website.

“Our district is so excited to be able to help out families in the 16 district who need a little extra help during the holidays,” District 16 wrote in a Facebook post announcing the grant on Friday. “We appreciate AWB for selecting LCFD 16!”
