Lewis County will enact a total burn ban to go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday due to dry weather conditions and fires throughout the region.
The county announced Monday that it would expand its usual summer burn restrictions to bar all outdoor fires — including recreational fires — in the unincorporated parts of the county. The use of propane or liquid gas field camp stoves without briquettes and with on and off controls is still allowed.
In the news release, Lewis County commissioners and Lewis County Fire Marshal Doyle Sanford recognized that the ban may impact recreational plans such as camping but emphasized the need for the ban for the sake of the safety of the county and its residents.
The announced burn ban will stay in place until specifically discontinued by the Lewis County Board of Commissioners. It comes with no official end date.
Residents seeking additional information about county burn restrictions can contact Sanford by calling 360-740-2696 or by visiting the fire marshal’s office located at 125 NW Chehalis Ave. in Chehalis.
