Lewis County Drug Take-Back to Be Held in Morton, Centralia on Saturday

Posted

Prescription drug take-back events will be held on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Morton Police Department and Centralia Middle School thanks to MortonUp! and the Centralia Prevention Coalition.

The Centralia Prevention Coalition and MortonUp! are community-based coalitions dedicated to protecting the health and future of youth by preventing and reducing substance use.

On Saturday, Lewis County residents can help prevent drug misuse by dropping off unused, outdated and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medicines for safe disposal at either location, according to a news release from the county.

Both events will have free snacks, medication lock boxes and tables from other community services providers.

The Centralia event will be hosted in conjunction with the Futurus High School Community Resource Fair, also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centralia Middle School. Students have planned the community service event, which will include representation from over 15 community organizations and service providers.

“Take back events are an important part of preventing prescription drug misuse. Youth and young adults who misuse prescription medications most often take them from a friend or family member,” stated the release. “Simple steps, like safely disposing of medications, can stop them from being misused. Participating in these take-back events is one thing that individuals can do to help address the opioid epidemic and protect their loved ones.”

National Drug Take Back Day events are sponsored by Washington State Health Care Authority in partnership with the Centralia and Morton Police Departments and Lewis County Public Health & Social Services.
