The Lewis County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the woman found in the Chehalis River on June 7 as Monica Torres, 51, of Tenino.
“The autopsy has been completed and the cause and manner of death are pending toxicology,” Lewis County Coroner Warren McCleod stated in a news release on Wednesday.
Torres was found dead in the Chehalis River in Galvin just outside Centralia on Saturday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
“At about 6:35 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the Chehalis River near Sheridan Street in Galvin where a caller located a deceased female in the water while they were floating the river,” the sheriff’s office stated in a news release.
Members of the Lewis County Swiftwater Rescue Team, including personnel from the Chehalis Fire Department, Lewis County Fire District 2 and the sheriff’s office, recovered the body from the river.
“The case remains active and, due to the nature of the investigation, no further information is being released at this time,” the sheriff’s office stated in the release. “An autopsy will be completed and further information regarding the decedent, to include cause and manner of death, will be released by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.”
