After citizens late last year had the chance to fill out a survey from Lewis County on their priorities for government spending, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Wednesday to use residents’ answers to begin creating a long-range strategic plan.

According to a news release, the topics ranked as most important by those surveyed and the BOCC include infrastructure, broadband and utility development, housing availability, economic opportunities and public safety.

The release stated commissioners also discussed easing planning, zoning and overall community development regulations; maintaining county parks; preserving trail, lake and river access; and supporting mental health and substance abuse programs as well as services for veterans and people who are homeless.

“Fifty-five percent of survey respondents said they were very optimistic or somewhat optimistic of the future of Lewis County,” the release stated.
