The Lewis County Bar Association hosted a swearing-in ceremony for a new attorney, Daniel J. Murray, in Lewis County Superior Court on Friday.

Murray will practice business law, real estate law and estate planning with the general practice firm Scheibmeir, Kelly & Nelson, P.S., which is based in Chehalis.

“I’m very blessed to have this opportunity,” Murray said after the ceremony on Friday. “And I think, when you stand before the judges, you get a real sense of what this profession means and the need to make sure you do it justice.”

Murray, 39, got his undergraduate bachelor of law at Sussex University in the United Kingdom in 2006 and practiced corporate law in England for 13 years. He married an American woman, Delani Murray, and the couple decided to move their family to Washington in 2019.

“Her family lives up in Olympia and we decided we wanted to move to Lewis County. We love the area. It’s a beautiful part of the world,” Murray said.

Daniel and Delani Murray currently live in Adna with their two children, Macie, 7, and Elsie, 3. Delani Murray teaches special education in Chehalis.

Daniel Murray studied American law at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, receiving his LLM in 2022, which allowed him to sit for the bar exam.

“It has been a long journey, and it’s a fantastic experience. It’s a very sort of humbling experience as well, to just be part of this community and to be able to serve this community,” Murray said.

Lewis County Superior Court Judge J. Andrew Toynbee formally swore in Murray in a Friday morning ceremony at the Lewis County Law and Justice Center in Chehalis.

“I will tell you that in my my time as a judge here in my time as an attorney here before that, I was always very, very proud of this bar, very proud of the congeniality, professionalism, and even though people will come with their causes that argue vigorously, they leave, they have lunch together, and they share the fellowship of this of this association. So I'm very proud to be a part of this community or this bar association and glad to be here,” Toynbee said to Murray during the ceremony.
