Lewis County Auditor’s Office: Monday, Feb. 3, is the last day to make remote voter registration changes before special election

Posted

Monday, Feb. 3, is the last day voters can register or update their existing registration by mail, online or at a driver’s licensing location for the upcoming Feb. 11 special election, according to a news release from the Lewis County Auditor’s Office.

After Feb. 3, voters can still register and update their existing registration in person at the Lewis County Auditor’s Office up until 8 p.m. on election day.

The Lewis County Auditor’s Office is located in the Historic Lewis County Courthouse at 351 NW North St. Chehalis, and is open weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The auditor’s office will remain open until 8 p.m. on election day.

Updates to voter registration can only be processed if voters have not already returned their ballots, according to the Lewis County Auditor’s Office.

Mail-in registration forms are available at all U.S. Post Office locations, libraries, school district offices as well as online at www.votewa.gov. Registration applications and updates received by mail or online after the deadline will take effect for the next election.

Ballots should arrive in mailboxes no later than Friday, Jan. 31, according to the auditor’s office.

Anyone who needs a replacement or did not receive a ballot can get a replacement ballot online at www.votewa.gov or in person at the Lewis County Auditor’s Office.

The auditor’s office encourages voters who intend to mail in their ballots to put their ballots in the mail at least seven days prior to the election, or by Feb. 4, to account for any unforeseen events or weather issues.

Ballots must be postmarked by election day to be counted.

If a voter does mail a ballot on election day, the auditor’s office advises them to take the ballot parcel directly to a postal clerk to be postmarked.

The auditor’s office encourages voters to use ballot drop boxes, which will remain open until 8 p.m. on election day. Ballot box locations can be found online at https://elections.lewiscountywa.gov.

Accessible voting units are available at the Lewis County Auditor’s Office during regular business hours and on Election Day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for assistance to individuals with disabilities and the elderly for registration and voting.

Seven school district measures and one fire measure are on the Feb. 11 special election ballot. Only voters within the boundaries of a district with a measure on the ballot will receive a ballot for this election.

More information on each measure and the election can be found online at https://elections.lewiscountywa.gov/current-election/.
