Lewis County branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) representative Jo Martens met with Hope Alliance of Lewis County Executive Director Kris Camenzind on Thursday, Oct. 1, to conduct a ceremonial check presentation after a successful fundraiser through the AAUW’s annual Evening With Authors event.

The benefit took place at Centralia College’s TransAlta Commons and featured authors Kristina McMorris, Shawn Inmon and Rosanne Parry, who took the stage in front of a crowd that raised $3,555 in support of the Hope Alliance’s mission, advocating for and empowering survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

On top of the money raised through the event, the AAUW saw two single donations of $2,000 and $5,000, bringing the total donated amount to more than $10,000, according to Martens.

Attendees enjoyed book signings, refreshments and appetizers donated by local restaurants The Hub, Tiki Tap Room, Zabdi Teriyaki, Cinn-A-Girls, British Bites, Hometown Restaurant, Owl and Cedar, Azteca and Los Agaves.

Additionally, local businesses Bateaux Winery, Julia Gaul of Edward Jones, HUBBUB, Insert Coin, The Refined Man, Hub City Honey, Main Street Grill and the Seattle Seahawks donated raffle baskets.
