As agency after agency are being deleted from our government, the effects will be felt by all citizens except the very wealthy. The buyout of federal employees was offered. If employees don’t accept it, they will face the threat of being fired and replaced by those in agreement with what the presidents (Elon Musk and Donald Trump) want to do.
Agencies being targeted are USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development) and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the Department of Education, the Department of Defense, Health and Human Services, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the FAA (Federal Aviation Agency), FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and the Department of the Treasury.
What is happening now in our country is nothing new. In 1934, the “Hitler Oath” was required of all civil servants and the military in Germany. If they refused to swear loyalty to Hitler, they were fired.
Does this sound familiar at all?
This has already been brought home to the U.S. Forest Service employees with less than a year in their positions. About 2,500 of the 3,300 employees hired in the last year have been fired. There will be no seasonal hires. This means no trail or facilities maintenance.
We are witnessing the rapid dismantling of all the government services we pay taxes to support. With them out of the picture, to whom will we turn to when we are in need of help when we face things like hurricanes, floods or fires? Where will our taxes then be spent? All of these agencies are thought of as unneeded and a waste of tax dollars by our current presidents?
If you don’t agree with the dismantling of the country’s safety net, make your opinions known publicly and to your elected officials. Better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness!
