As chief engineer and then as Lewis County Public Utility District (PUS) manager, I worked with Steve Grega at the PUD for over 30 years.
Steve worked with me on all aspects of PUD management. He was easy to work with and a valuable member of the PUD staff.
I assigned Steve a variety of duties, from power line design, fiber optics, 9-Canyon Wind liaison, and regulatory compliance; he would always complete the task with resourceful thinking.
Steve, as a licensed professional engineer, was the primary project engineer for the Cowlitz Falls Dam.
He took care of a variety of responsibilities for the dam relating to licensing, permitting, design, construction and operation of the Cowlitz Falls Hydroelectric Project. Steve, along with the project team, would always come up with a solution to any problem at the dam.
I could count on him to deal with the regulatory agencies negotiating solutions to their concerns without breaking the bank. Steve would produce detailed technical reports on a variety of subjects. Steve has a wide scope of engineering and technical knowledge. He would put in the extra effort, work long hours, when a project or a report was on a tight deadline.
With the relicensing of Cowlitz Falls right around the corner, Steve has the background, knowledge and experience to guide the PUD through the regulatory process. It takes special fortitude to work with the various agencies to ensure the PUD is getting a fair shake when addressing their issues. I believe Steve will be a valuable asset for the PUD in the Cowlitz Falls relicensing.
Steve is also knowledgeable of power supply issues, from BPA power sales contracts, state mandates on green energy, and new resources needed to supply power in the future.
In addition to his engineering knowledge and experience, Steve is fiscally conservative and won’t spend money that isn’t necessary for the operation of the utility.
I believe he will look out for the PUD customers. I am supporting Steve Grega for Lewis County PUD Commissioner.
