Does anyone doubt that democracy in the United States is circling the drain? Do you believe that our elected officials are effectively fighting to stop it? Can we rely on the judicial branch to stop this madness?
As individual citizens, what powers do we possess that could rid the country of the dictator-in-chief and his cadre of sycophants? Do we really have any power at all to depose these folks in a non-violent manner?
We do, though, as individuals, we hold absolutely no power. As a population united, we have a stronger weapon at our disposal than any branch of our government. The power we possess as united citizens is one that can shut down the economy using a general strike.
Definition for general strike: A strike of workers in all or most industries.
Achieving this would be quite difficult if not impossible currently. We have not yet reached the critical mass necessary to unite us. It will be when our health care is no longer affordable or available; when our schools fire their children’s teachers due to budget cuts; when natural disasters come with no warning from NOAA, and no help from FEMA.
Will veterans support the very gang that halted their access to benefits they have earned? Will disillusioned MAGA men and women act when they realize they have been hoodwinked by a con-man?
Critical industries can achieve a halt in national commerce. Work stoppage in the transportation sector is an example. A work stoppage of truckers, Longshoremen, railway men and women and Merchant Mariners would throttle the economy quickly. Convincing unions to join this strike would be essential. The IT community holds power that can strike a serious blow for democracy as individuals.
The one driving force influencing oligarchs is money, the more, the better. They simply can’t get enough. It will not take long for these robber barons to miss the millions that they’ve been “earning” and hoarding.
Have any of us had our financial gardens watered by the trickle-down economic philosophy? To prepare for such a work stoppage, we can put away essentials for a few weeks. We can help our neighbors that haven’t if we can afford it.
By simply spreading this proposal by talking to folks and using the internet the movement will come to the attention of those currently destroying the very foundation that our nation stands upon. Perhaps the threat of shutting down the nation’s economy will provide impetus for our elected officials to finally stand up for their constituents and put a stop to this madness.
Throughout history. United citizens have changed the course of governments that served only the rulers and their wealthy compatriots. We can achieve the end of oligarchy and fascism in America without rolling out the guillotines.
Stand up to save democracy.
