Letter to the editor: Treatment of ICE officers is saddening

Posted

How sad it is to see ICE police officers being attacked, assaulted, threatened and treated with such disrespect and lack of support.

And at the urging of elected officials, the media and police administrations.

The Constitution does not give citizens the right to protest as we see it being done on the news every day. It gives our citizens only the right to assemble peacefully.

Regardless if you feel sorry for the illegal aliens that are being arrested, your heart bleeds for them or you think they should just be left alone, they are criminals. ICE has the legal authority to arrest them and deport them. Like it or not.

Here's my problem:

Even if the local (across the country) police do not take part in the raids and or arrest of the illegals, they should be responding and standing side by side with their fellow police officers and arresting the citizens who obstruct, interfere, assault, attack or threaten the ICE officers.

The local police should be arresting any citizen who damages property, public property including patrol cars, vehicles or fences.

The local police should be arresting any citizen who breaks into those vehicles and steals equipment or property.

Those local police officers raised their hands and took an oath to uphold the law.

All the laws. Not just the ones they agree with or like.

They don't get to turn a blind eye and look the other way because of politics or social demands.

I want to believe in my heart that those officers, who would arrest any other citizen for doing the exact same thing not connected to the ICE operations, would line up to enforce the local laws being violated if it were not for the cowards they work for giving them orders to stand down.

Shame on any police chief or sheriff that will not direct their officers to enforce the local laws.

Shame on the elected officials who demand a hands off approach.

Are we going to stand by and do nothing until our cities blow up and burn down like they did in the Summer of Love?

How many people will die? How many billions of dollars will be lost in property damage and theft before our country returns to a land of law and order?

"To serve and protect" is not just a slogan painted on the side of patrol cars on TV shows.

It's a mandate by the people.
