Letter to the editor: The war on fishing boats has been won

Posted

Say, whatever happened to the threat of Venezuela killing millions of us with fentanyl?

We spent, at the very, very least, $13 million apiece for every assassinated fisherman/drug peddler we attempted to reform.

Did it all go away when “we” got their oil instead? Surprise!

I got more than a little curious about that, did the research, and found the ultimate answer coming from our supreme leader himself: President Trump addressed the question on Dan Bongino’s podcast.

Bongino: Mr. President, I know you're busy, but one last question: The Donroe Doctrine: your posture that we have to dominate this hemisphere, look at the results you've had. This is working! You are absolutely spot on. It is not the 1960s anymore. We have to control this hemisphere from a national security perspective.

Trump: Well, that's right. And here's the main thing. We were laughed at a year and a half ago. We were laughed at as being stupid people. We were laughed at as we see a guy falling up the stairs going into an airplane. I gotta be very careful going in. You ever notice how slowly I — nice and slow. I'm not looking to set any records. You don't wanna go down. Could happen. I mean, you know, could happen. But it can't happen three times in one shot. Okay? The three times going up to stair. I don't think you'll ever see anything like that, but it could happen. So I have to be a little bit open (to that happening), I'd have to say. Could happen, but, you ever watched me? I come down nice and slow. I'm not looking to set any records, okay? That was the one thing, I have to tell you, the only thing I respected, (from who?) and yet it didn't look elegant at all. He bopped down the stair. (Fred Astaire?)

Bongino: Right.

Trump: He would be in the middle. I thought it looked so terrible. You know, I mean, this is the President of the United States. (Oh, now we’re getting somewhere) He's bopping down, you know, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop. And I kept waiting for him to fall and he didn't.  (President Bugs Bunny?)

Bongino: Yeah.

Trump: I didn't even like the look of it. But I, I was impressed with his, uh, ability to go down the stairs like that. I mean, I wouldn't wanna do it. You know, those stairs are very slippery.

Bongino: Yeah.

Trump: And I always used to say —

Bongino: Yeah?

Trump: — he's an accident waiting to happen. And to the best of my knowledge, it didn't happen, so I give him credit. But it happened, uh, many falls with Biden. Aye yai yai. What a president.

So there you have it, it’s a very complicated subject, but I think we can all admire the President for not talking down to us and giving us what an average American can understand.
