Letter to the editor: The bad news, but with a final ray of hope

Posted

Gleaned from The Chronicle in the past few days: The tedium of this tome has a point — bear with me:

• A 57-year-old Longview man faces multiple first- and second-degree charges in having depictions of minors doing … God knows what.

• A former Rainier High School principal in Oregon faces the same charges with 31 files in his possession.

• Yet another Rainier, Oregon, resident, a wrestling clinic coach, has been indicted on child sex crimes.

• A Morton man has been charged with four counts of child molestation, along with other charges. He faces up to life in prison.

• A Silver Creek man faces five counts of child molestation, and of supplying liquor, along with a controlled substance to a minor.

• A 32-year-old Lewis County man faces three counts of attempted murder and assault for shooting at police officers and pointing his firearm at Chehalis railroad workers.

• A Bucoda man faces three felony charges: eluding a pursuit, malicious mischief and escaping from community custody. He’s looking at a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison.

• A 73-year-old Vancouver man faces vehicular homicide and DUI charges, being arrested at the scene of a crash that killed a man and his son who were out walking.

• To the north of us: A “bikini barista” stand owner, who allegedly stole wages and sexually harassed staff, faces a Washington state lawsuit.

• The notorious search for an Army veteran, suspected of killing his three daughters, may have reached an end with the finding of his body.

• Two Renton teens are accused of beating a transgender woman at a Renton transit station.

Those mentioned above are all local American citizens. May we even step a little more lightly by implying that they are “superior” in a few ways?

But never mind all that. Dry your eyes. Their hands are now where they should be — behind their backs.

Now we come to the point. And there is some very good news to report, to overcome all the darkness and gloom. It may be a small step, but we’re obviously making some headway:

There have been no reports of illegal immigrants killing and eating our pets.
