Letter to the editor: Representing patriots for responsible governance

Posted

Like others, we recently got our property tax bill. Yikes. It’s a lot of money, and we want the commissioners to be more responsible with our tax dollars this year.

Some weeks ago, against the common good, Commissioner Sean Swope introduced a “mask mandate ban resolution.” Seems it was never finalized, likely because it is against the law and would create yet another unnecessary liability for Lewis County taxpayers. It was chock-full of life threatening health misinformation, the worst of which is the claim that masks and mandates don’t work.

Of course, the truth is that seat belts, helmets, face masks and other mandated safety protections do work and do save lives. Can you imagine someone trying to pass a seat belt mandate ban resolution? Give me a break. Of course, it’s impossible to estimate the amount of grief and money this has cost the people of Lewis County, but regardless, we’re the ones that have to foot the bill.

Look, I don’t know everything, but I do know that fostering division, and making life more expensive and dangerous for constituents is not part of the county commissioner’s job description.

Also, where is the Lewis County health officer in all of this? What do they have to say about it?

Another failure is when the commissioners, again led by Swope, voted against the Nisqually Tribe and the YMCA to stop them from using their own private property as they see fit. Swope went so far as to racially divide up Nisqually Tribal members from “normal citizens” while illegally and publicly questioning them about their private views on politics, sexuality, race, and parenting. That, friends, is bullying, and us patriots have zero tolerance for it. Also, it’s that kind of language and public verbal assault that gives other perpetrators the green light to target and harm other families and their children. This abusive, big government overreach hurts all of us.

Thank goodness we have laws that stopped it. But not soon enough because, again, us taxpayers have to pay for all the legal, collateral and spiritual damage.

Most people can only dream of making the $100,000-plus per year salary that the commissioners get. They need to be more respectful of our hard work we put in to make these tax dollars and stop wasting our money.

We have these three requests for the commissioners:

• Please seek education regarding racial profiling, private property and privacy rights.

• Please only promote factual health information. If you don’t know about it, don’t make stuff up. It’s dangerous to do so.

• And finally, please consult with people that know more than you about all of these things. Anyone in the private sector that pulled this kind of stuff would be out of a job.

Bottom line is, you need to be more responsible with our tax dollars.
