Letter to the editor: Port of Centralia director is a genius

Posted

Maybe not in the way we would hope, but just sit back and think about it.

According to his employment contract, he can only be fired for “good cause,” which means convicted of moral turpitude or embezzlement. It further states that he cannot be fired for “an instance of negligence or failure to act whether due to an error in judgment or otherwise.”

And “for good cause” has to be determined by a court of law. If there is an erroneous termination for cause, Director Kyle Heaton will be paid “a lump sum equal to 48 months of his current base salary plus all unused vacation and continuation of all health benefits for himself, spouse, domestic partner and dependents for 48 months, and any reasonable attorney fees.” Thus, the term “Golden Parachute.”

So, you can see he is a genius looking out for himself. If terminated, and considering his age, he won’t leave behind the legacy he may have hoped for, and his career may be over. Who else would hire him? He clearly has no incentive or desire to refrain from bad public behavior as he publicly called citizens “idiots,” and he just may be right in some cases.

Look at what he has done over the years. He has manipulated suckers like Commissioner Julie Shaffley into signing that obscene contract and he’s manipulated Commissioner Kyle Markstrom into doing his dirty work for him, such as making accusations and threats against citizens. Shaffley and Markstrom will take the fall, while Director Heaton’s hands will be clean.

Director Kyle Heaton will go riding off into the sunset with his “Golden Parachute” windfall in hand, laughing at all the suckers and puppets he left behind to be held accountable for his actions. Just like he planned.
