Letter to the editor: Owning the libs or being a troll is not a value worth our vote

Posted

All of us are probably sick of candidate mailers and TV ads depicting terrible things that may be ahead if we vote for candidate X.

All of it is supported by dark money and, in some cases, our taxpayer dollars. We need big money out of politics. We need to demand better candidates, people who will work for us and people of integrity.

Currently, we know a few in our area who are less than kind people. They insult and demean, they get fined and have restraining orders against them for their behavior towards constituents.

It is beyond my ability to understand how some of these people got elected in the first place, but why do they deserve our vote again? Owning the libs or being a troll is not a value worth our vote. We need people of intelligence and understanding and compassion who will represent the needs of everyone in their district.

We deserve better.

Somewhere not that long ago, some political strategist claimed “party over country.” So now we just stick to the R or D label without thinking much about who these candidates are or what they represent. Most are in or running for themselves, then maybe for their party, and lastly for us, the people.

We need to demand this change.

Here's what we should all demand.

1. People first

2. Regional needs

3. Country, not party

No one should be in office for themselves, period. Nor for corporations. Nor to own the libs or get government contracts, or work the system for their benefit. We need people who will work for us, for our local needs, and then for the good of the nation.
