I am concerned at the callous disregard for human life that is being exhibited and even applauded by the leadership of our nation.
Does our nation’s leadership not understand that shutting down USAID will cause the needless suffering and even death of tens of thousands?
Think about it. USAID is on the first line of our defense against the outbreak of deadly pandemic level diseases. Ebola doesn’t know or care about borders.
Members of the Republican party (Micheal Flynn in particular) are attacking religious institutions (catholic church, ELCA Lutherans) who have been caring for the neediest among us, spewing hatred and lies about them. Isn’t this what the Nazi regime did to the Jewish population?
Bullying our friends and allies through mafia-like strongarm tactics forcing capitulation through intimidation never ends well. Putting someone over a barrel may force temporary submission, though not without a price. People don’t forget such humiliation.
Demanding that 1,800,000 people leave their homeland so it can be turned into golf courses and resort hotels just doesn’t seem right. What if the population of Thurston and Lewis counties, including you, were ordered to leave by the leadership of another country? How would you respond?
The United States is looking more and more like Germany in 1938. It scares me and it should scare you too. It will backfire badly, and our nation will suffer the consequences. Of course, we have problems as a country but why does the fix have to be a wrecking ball?
