Letter to the editor: Murphy will have my vote and hopefully yours

Posted

With all the furor around the sheriff’s race, it is time to write in support of Tracy Murphy for sheriff.

During this and the past election cycle, there has been a lot of mudslinging to impugn Tracy’s character. I have known Tracy for most of his law enforcement career. He was my neighbor across the alley here in Centralia when he started out 30 years ago. He has always been helpful and ready to lend a hand when needed.

He has always been willing to give a well-measured opinion when advice was sought.

While we all may have differences of opinion where we work or about other things going on in our communities and country, Tracy has been a standup, honest and straightforward person in our discussions.

There have been implications that he has said things to tarnish the character of other law enforcement in our area. I have never once heard him say or insinuate that another law enforcement officer was shielding or aiding wrongdoing.

Having personally gone through the character assassination route both in my elected position (twice) and at work (once anonymously) in the last three years and having been exonerated three times, I can commiserate with the position Tracy has been put in.

There comes a time in any organization that a change of direction can enhance an operation. Tracy’s years of exemplary experience in law enforcement and his progression through responsible assignments shows that he has the ability and knowledge to bring about positive change.

Tracy will have my vote and hopefully yours.
