Letter to the Editor: “Man” should be barred from killing owls

Posted

I suppose Man feels there are too many of them, so why not target practice on 450,000 barred owls.

Of course, they are only obeying God who said to the animals “be fruitful and multiply” in Genesis 1:22. I guess it's not surprising to see them killed for obeying God. A man was killed on a cross for his obedience to God.

It may be worth noting that the spotted owl looks very similar to the barred owl.

Many spotted owls, the ones that Man is attempting to protect, will be wounded and murdered as well, in my opinion.

“Studies of owl food habits show that owls feed almost exclusively on rodents and other harmful small animals that are hard on crops and forests. A British study showed owls took 23,980 rodents each year per square mile.” This was taken from the Reader's Digest book titled “Marvels and Mysteries of Our Animal World."

Yet, only 19 of the 50 states and two of Canada’s provinces protect all species. Owls are the most beneficial of all birds.

Wouldn’t it be wise to offer more protection for the wise old owl?
