Letter to the editor: It’s not about oil — it’s about annihilation

Posted

If the polls are correct, the most important issue for voters is the cost of living driven by the cost of oil.

Democrats have a simple answer: Stop the war! Get cheaper oil!

For anyone filling up their gas tank or shopping, that is a compelling argument, unless of course they consider nuclear annihilation.

Don’t be silly, you say. Who would be crazy enough to fire nuclear tipped missiles?

The answer: religious zealots. “Allah commands us to destroy non-believers.”

Iran’s religious leaders haven’t used oil wealth to improve the lives of their people. They have built long-range missiles housed in hardened sites to deliver nuclear bombs. Once those bombs are ready, their neighbors will submit, Israel will be vaporized, and we will be next because “It’s Allah’s will!”

That is what this election is about.

The melding of religious zeal with politics is not uncommon. Even here in Lewis County.

The difference between a democracy and a theocracy is that in a democracy we can weed out the zealots. Most of the “I speak for God” politicians are eventually defeated.

In this election, voters can believe the party promising cheaper gas, even though its leaders vigorously oppose gas, or, they can support defeat of the Mullahs, increasing the likelihood of a peaceful Middle East, a more peaceful world, and a return to a stable and affordable cost of living.

That’s the choice.
