I’m Bob Spahr, candidate for re-election to the Chehalis City Council, Position 3.
Having lived in Chehalis my entire life, I am proud to have been able to serve on your city council for nearly 36 years. I am proud of the work we, as a community, have done to make Chehalis a great place to live.
My mother was born in Chehalis, as was I. I attended local schools and Centralia College. My working career included everything from milking cows and driving a milk truck for my uncles to management positions and even years of self employment, primarily in the credit and financial field and real estate sales.
My wife and I have raised our three children here, and now they are raising their children here.
I am invested in Chehalis and have been active in numerous organizations, including, but not limited to, the Chehalis Jaycees, Twin Cities Sertoma, Lewis County Alliance, Miss Lewis County Scholarship Pageant and Lewis County Bowling Association.
For the past eight years, I have volunteered as an assistant coach for the W.F. West girls bowling team and I am proud to have been a part of bringing two state championships home.
Chehalis is a can-do city, meaning if the community wants it done, somehow, it will get done.
I’m proud to have been a part of it from building the new sewer treatment plant to completely redoing Recreation Park plus many other projects.
The city founded the Chehalis Foundation, a longtime dream of Dr. Isaac Pope. The foundation’s mission is to help fund the many projects that have made our lives better. We also expanded the scope of the foundation’s work to include the school district, and that helped to pay for the new baseball stadium.
Studies and plans for future projects are in various stages of planning or completion, such as sidewalks and street improvements around the Snively area to improve pedestrian safety for the schools, additional parking around Rec Park and the swimming pool, and a long-term project to improve the downtown area with improved water and sewer mains, streets and sidewalks.
We are also working on a large annexation, which has really been discussed for several years, but for several roadblocks, has never been able to be completed. The stars may have come into alignment and, while we are still gathering data, it may be time to complete this project, which could be very vital to the future of Chehalis, plus all of Lewis County.
With my combined 36 years of experience on the Chehalis City Council, I bring valuable knowledge about our city’s history, the council’s operations and a deep love for our community.
With your vote this election, we’ll be able to continue the mission to keep Chehalis a great place to live.
Thank you for your consideration.
Bob Spahr
