Letter to the editor: Gaslighting — fact or fiction

Posted

Kudos to Katherine Ford for her Feb. 12 letter to the editor addressing gaslighting.

In this supercharged political season, spotting gaslighting, telling falsehoods or half-truths over and over until the falsehood becomes accepted as fact, is extremely important.

Unfortunately, Katherine’s letter degenerated into a Marty Ansley-like rant (Feb. 2, “Trump gaslighting and not believing your own eyes”).

It would be extremely useful if Katherine and Marty and all of us followed the writing style displayed in Chris Granger’s Feb.12 letter, “Marie Glusenkamp Isn’t a moderate.” It was a fact-filled letter to the editor. Searchable facts are cited, and a meaningful opinion was drawn and clearly stated.

In conclusion, Granger explicitly warns that what you watch or read in the many forms of media may be “gaslighting.”

Be aware and be wary and vote informed come election time.
