Letter to the editor: Exorbitant increases in property tax values need closer examination

Posted

In a recent letter to the editor, it was suggested that The Chronicle may want to look into the seemingly exorbitant increases in property tax values for Lewis County. We live in Centralia, and our assessed values have skyrocketed over the last three years by 17.2%, 18.1% and now 22%, respectively.

Redfin reports that 2022-23 home prices fell 4.3%. Zillow reports they dropped by .6%, and Rocket Homes, .9%.

Something is obviously wrong, and it appears the citizens of this county are being overtaxed. I support the view that The Chronicle may want to look into this matter.
